Criminology and criminology

Have you ever wondered what is the difference between criminology and criminology? You may not have even heard what their definitions are. Therefore, there is some confusion when talking about these two sciences.

What does criminology study?

Criminology aims to study antisocial and criminal behaviors, seeking to understand the factors that determine criminal behavior (both in the psychological and social fields). Likewise, it studies the reactions that crime can generate in society.

Criminology, in turn, is not only limited to the study of criminals and the reasons for their actions, it also focuses on the study of victims and intervenes to help them overcome the consequences caused by crime.

Finally, it also seeks to prevent and control crime through criminal policies in order to strengthen social welfare.

What does criminology study?

Criminalistics is a discipline that applies scientific methods to study the scene of a crime, and, in this way, reconstruct the facts raised in the crime.

This discipline follows methodologies and protocols for the study of crimes, likewise, it relies on other forensic sciences to carry out investigations and resolution of criminal cases.

Differences between criminology and criminology

Although criminology and criminology study crime, the approach of each is different.

On the one hand, we understand criminology to be the discipline that studies crime scenes based on scientific methods in conjunction with other forensic sciences.

Criminology, on the other hand, focuses on the study of antisocial behavior, its repercussion within society and crime prevention.
